Pfc Delbert Erickson graduated from Hoquiam High School in 1938.Pfc Delbert Ericksonwas awarded the Silver Star Medal posthumously. the citation cited: for gallantry in action at * * *, Germany on 26 February 1945. During the course of an attack by the First Battalion, * * * Infantry, in the darkness of early morning hours, attacking echelons encountered heavy concentrations of enemy fire in fields containing an unusually great amount of enemy antipersonnel mines. Pvt Erickson, a litter bearer, realizing the need for additional aid men to treat the numerous casualties, voluntarily assumed the task of aid man, entered the dangerous area, and despite the enemy mortar and machine gun fire and the presence of enemy mines, proceeded upon his errand of mercy. While so engaged, he stepped uppon a mine and was killed. The gallant actions of Pvt Erickson are in accord with military tradition and reflect credit upon the Medical Department of the Army. Entered military service from Washington.
The picture was taken in high school in 1938.
