Pfc Hedvig M. Jussila enlisted in Traverse City, Michigan, on 15 June 1942. Prior to that, he had enlisted into the Civilian Conservation Corps. He trained at Camp Pickett, Virginia, Camp Blanding, Florida; Camp Forrest, Tennessee, Yuma, Arizona, and Camp Phillips, Kansas. He was sent overseas in April 1944.

He was slightly wounded on 9 October 1944 in France. after recovering, he returned to duty.

Pfc Jussila died of alcohol poisoning.
