Sgt Joseph J. Wendrzycki's father immigrated from Poland.

He grew up in a poor Polish household. Joe and his siblings used to run behind the coal delivery truck to pick up the coal that had fallen to use gor heat or sell.

He enlisted in Syracuse, New York on 10 November 1942.

He was just married right before being shipped overseas to Helen James.
