More information
Pfc Wilbur E. Evans attended high school for 4 years before he enlisted in Louisville, Kentucky on 6 January 1944.He was killed when he was hit by a piece of shrapnel in the head. According to witnesses he probably would have lived had he stayed on the ground, but he got up and started running around among the men, moaning and praying for God to let him die. He thought he was blind for his cap had slipped over his eyes and he couldn't see. His comrades tried to get him to lay down but he wouldn't listen. He was finally picked off by a German rifleman.
