More information
S/Sgt George N. Harrison was a leather cutter. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross posthumously. The citation stated:
Sgt Harrison was in a small wood with several members of his platoon who were attempting to reach a house across an open field. When three of the men were wounded by enemy snipers and were unable to withdraw with the rest of the platoon, Sgt Harrison gave his rifle to a BAR man whose weapon would not work and crawled out unarmed in the face of enemy fire to assist the wounded. After aiding one man to safety, he was attempting to move another when a sniper killed him and the wounded man.
