More information

Capt Robert V. Breyman attended college for two years and was a bookkeeper and cashier before he enlisted in Los Angeles, California on 22 April 1941.
He was awarded the Silver Star Medal posthumously. the citation cited: For gallantry in action in connection with military operations against an armed enemy on 22 October 1944, Commanding Company A during a daylight attack, Capt. Breyman was at the head of his company when it was pinned down at the edge of the woods at an early hour by murderous enemy machine gun. Mortar and rifle fire. At all times at the head of company, his aggressive action and utter disregard for personal safety was an inspiration to his men and spurred them on to push into the woods in the face of such fire. Later in the afternoon he again displayed the highest example of inspiring courage and leadership when he let his men in a charge directly against relentless and intensive enemy resistance, through machine gun and mortar fire, for a distance of three hundred yards in obtain and consolidate positions where his company could best repel an expected enemy counter attack. It was while leading this charge that Capt. Breyman was seriously wounded wounds which later resulted in his death.
He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Andilly, France.
