Sgt John V. Krumrine attended high school for four years and worked for the Muskin Shoe Company before he enlisted in Baltimore, Maryland on 14 April 1943.

Sgt Krumrine was shot by one of his own trigger-happy men as he was leading patrol out in a no-man's land sometime before midnight.
