Pvt Gerald L. Schmidt attended high school for two years and was a painter before he enlisted in Boise, Idaho on 16 November 1943.He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Limey, France.
He is remembered at the South Hill Cemetery in Vandalia, Fayette County, Illinois.
