Sgt Paul S. Shimer was a retail manager employed by the J.C. Penny Co. Store.He enlisted at Fort George G. Meade, Maryland on 19 April 1944 and was sent overseas in June 1944.
When he left England from the port of Southampton, England, he was celebrated as being the millionth American soldier to sail to Europe.
He was killed in an artillery shell.
