Pfc Seymour Silverfarb attended high school for 4 years and was a driver before he enlisted in Fort Jay Governors Island, New York on 20 August 1942.
He was awarded the Silver Star Medal posthumously for his action on the day of his death. The citation cited: When a man was severely wounded during the attack on Schweinfurt, Pvt Silverfarb, although warned of the deadly enemy fire concentrated on the area, steadily made his way forward. As he approached the wounded man, Pvt Silverfarb was hit by enemy sniper fire and was mortally wounded. He died while still attempting to administer aid the casualty.
