Pfc Johnnie E. Smith Jr. was a teamster before he enlisted at Fort Lauderdale, Florida on 14 March 1942.Initially listed as missing in action, non-recoverable or unidentifiable, Pfc Smith's remains were later recovered and identified. His remains were returned to Louisiana for interment at a private cemetery.
Pfc Smith's name is permanently inscribed on the Tablets of the Missing at the Luxembourg American Cemetery and Memorial.
