Pvt Wesley H. Doney was awarded the Silver Star Medal for moving through enemy occupied territory to repair a broken communications wire, which he successfully repaired and returned, despite being surrounded by the enemy.

He was initially buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery Foy, Belgium.
