Sgt Edward J. Chodynicky graduated from Maynard High School in 1938. He was employed at La Pointe Machine Tool Company.

He enlisted in Fort Devens, Massachusetts on 6 March 1944.

He was killed by shrapnel in the chest.

He was initially buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery of Breuna, Germany on 16 April 1945. After being disinterred his remains were evacuated to Margraten where he was buried in a temporary grave on 13 July 1946. After being disinterred again and after the cemetery was given a permanent status, he was given his final resting place on 8 February 1949.

Sgt Chodynicky is remembered at Saint Bridget's Cemetery in Maynard, Middlesex County, Massachusetts with a memorial marker.
