Josep A. Castaneda emigrated the the United State in February 1934. He officially became an US citizen on 6 October 1944, in London, England.He graduated as an aerial gunner at the Laredo Army Air Field.
Radio Operator Lauger later rendered the following report on the crew's mishap, that the plane left the bomber formation immediately over the target and that all members except the 4 who perished did bail out.
Jose Castaneda was buried in the Village Cemetery, Roesebeck Germany.
