Pfc Clarence E. Swartley was employed by the Jacobs Aircraft Co.

He enlisted in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on 7 October 1942.

He was killed when the HQ Battery received a direct hit during an enemy barrage.

He was initially buried in a temporary grave at Margraten on 9 March 1945.
