2nd Lt George C. Munroe Jr. graduated from Ridgewood High School in 1939 and from Penn State University in 1943 with a degree in geology.

He enlisted in Greensboro, North Carolina on 6 July 1943 and was commissioned at Selma Field in Alabama in January 1945.

A/C 44-83276 was hit by flak between #1 and #2 engine, just after bombs away.

One crew member was able to bail out before the wing fell off and the ship went into a spin. The remaining 9 men, among which 2nd Lt Munroe, were killed when plane crashed.

He was initially buried unidentified with three other crew members in a mass grave in Krusemark, Germany.
