More information

2nd Lt Raymond C. Hopp graduated from LaSalle-Peru Township High School in 1942 and attended Stout Institute in Menomonie, Wisconsin.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army on 30 January 1943.

S/Sgt Richard B. Jessop states in the Missing Aircrew Report:
"Just after bombs away I heard over the interphone that Lt Folger's ship had left formation. I saw it go into a slight dive to the right. It pulled out at about ten thousand feet. The last I saw of it, it was heading back into the flak over the target in Leipzig, Germany and under control. There were no chutes that I could see."

All crewmembers bailed out, and survived the crash. According to the eye-witness reports of the crewmembers Lt Hopp was shot through the chest with a rifle when he attempted an escape.
