More information
Pfc Edward W. Butts was a sport instructor before he volunteered for the Army of the United States at Camp Blanding, Florida on 8 August 1942.On 25 January 1945 when a intense enemy artillery barrage endangered his vehicle, Pvt Butts voluntarily left cover and without regard to the danger to himself, moved the vehicle under heavy fire to a safe place. While doing so he was wounded in the head and body by shell fragments from which he died the next day. For this action he was awarded the Silver Star posthumously.
