S/Sgt Raymond L. Osborn was employed at the West Virginia Pulp and Paper Company before he volunteered for the Army of the United States in Albany, New York on 17 October 1942.The B-17 was damaged by fighters on the bomb run and then received a direct hit from flak in the cockpit and radio room. At about 0840hrs the aircraft exploded in mid-air at 12,000 feet and crashed 1,000 yards north of Chapdeuil, southeast of Paris.
He didn’t bail out and was found with a large hole in his chest from flak.
He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Solers, France.
