Omer Fontaine joined the National Guard on 24 February 1941 in Pawtucket, Rhode Island.

A/C 42-31531 was shot down by enemy fighters and crashed in Riestedt, 4 miles northwest of Klotze, 34 miles northeast of Braunschweig, Germany. Omer Fontaine and pilot Lewis W. Lennartson were killed, the remaining 8 crew members were taken POW.
