Pfc John J. Schweizer worked on the farm before he enlisted in Pueblo, Colorado on 24 August 1942.

He was reported wounded in action by artillery shell fragments to his skull.

He was awarded the Silver Star Medal posthumously.

He is remembered at the Turon Cemetery in Turon, Reno County, Kansas.
