1st Lt James B. Boese entered the service in October 1941. He left for overseas duty in August 1944.Lt. Boese was mortally wounded when his unit ran into a mine field. He was awarded the Silver Star Medal for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy on 2 September 1944.
