Pfc George T. Kushner Jr. attended high school at the Mining and Mechanical Institute located in Freeland, Pennsylvania and graduated in 1941. He was awarded a scholarship to attend Lehigh University, located in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. He studied electrical engineering.He joined the National Guard while attending Lehigh University and was called to active duty on 14 June 1943. He was sent overseas on the S.S. Argentina on 27 August 1944.
