1st Lt Anthony D. Petro was a structural and ornamental metal worker at the Carnegie Illinois Steel Company before he enlisted in Cleveland, Ohio on 13 February 1941.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Saint-Juan, France.
