S/Sgt Nevin W. Pifer attended high school for two years and was a chauffeur, employed by the General Refractories Company, before he enlisted in Altoona, Pennsylvania on 10 April 1943.He was awarded the Silver Star Medal posthumously for his actions on the day of his death. He was killed by small arms fire in his back.
