2nd Lt Leroy A. Coy graduated from Randolph High School and worked on his father's farm.

He volunteered for the Air Corps of the Army of the United States in Des Moines, Iowa on 31 March 1942. He trained in California, Texas, and New Mexico and was commissioned a lieutenant and received his wings in Albuquerque, New Mexico on 27 March 1943.

Lt Davis in a/c 42-548, was hit by flak at the Northern defenses of the Rhur Valley. He left the formation with the engines smoking but under control. Shortly afterwards, the crew bailed out and the plane blew-up. The enlisted men were in Stalag I, Barth, Germany. Served as an air force bombardier. Shot down over the English Channel on a bombing mission to Germany.
