Pfc James A. Goebel attended high school for one year and worked on a farm before he enlisted in Abilene, Texas on 4 March 1943.He is remembered at the Hermleigh Cemetery in Hermleigh, Scurry County, Texas.
His brother Victor J. Goebel is remembered on the Tablets of the Missing at the American Military Cemetery and Memorial of Manila.
