Pfc Earl C. Souther graduated from Wilkesboro High School and was employed by the L. Martin Aircraft Co.

He enlisted at Camp Croft, South Carolina on 19 August 1944. He trained at Camp Wheller, Georgia and was sent overseas in February 1945.
