Pfc Leon C. Lage graduated from Gledbrook High School and worked on a farm before he enlisted at Fort Snelling, Minnesota on 18 July 1944.He was married to Melissa Stauffer on 30 January 1944. She just had given birth to their son and was still in hosptial when she received the telegram from the War Department, saying het husband had been killed in action.
