Capt James D. Stevens attended college.He joined the Air Corps of the Regular Army as an aviation cadet at Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia, on 11 February 1941.
He was killed in a training accident.
According to the book 'The 370th Fighter Group in World War II' by Jay Jones, Capt James D. Stevens was on a training flight in a P-51 when British anti-aircraft gunners near Venlo, The Netherlands, mistakenly opened fire and shot him down.
