More information

S/Sgt Lyman H. Tipps attended college and was a sales clerk before he enlisted at Fort McClellan, Alabama, on 19 June 1942.

1st Lt Arnold M. Hansen:
"Approximately 15 minutes before reaching the target, the formation was attacked by 25-30 ME-109s and ME-210s. Due to the battle that followed by our bombers and the enemy's fighters, observation of the loss of Lt Rossman and crew on aircraft number 42-73421-Z could not be determined. It is believed, from the interrogation of crews that participated in the mission, that the aircraft crashed in the vicinity of the target from enemy pursuit hits. No opened parachutes were observed, though a medium cloud layer could have obstructed such escapes."
