Pfc Oscar F. Voght Jr. was employed as a clerk at the Hudson Valley Pure Food Company before he enlisted in Albany, New York on 12 December 1942. He was sent overseas in June 1944.

His company commander, Capt George Weber, remembered what happened:
This tragic accident occurred when the company set out on a river crossing on 9 November. He was wounded by shrapnel which rendered him unconscious and was immediately sent to the hospital. His wounds were of such a serious nature that he never recovered consciousness and he passed away on the tenth of November.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Limey, France.
