Pfc Charles A. Archer worked on a farm before he enlisted at Fort Mc Pherson, Atlanta, Georgia on 1 December 1943.

He joined his unit from the 38th Replacement Battalion on 21 September 1944 as a private. He was promoted to Pfc on 1 December 1944.

According to the Morning Report of his company of 18 December 1944, he was reported missing in action on 12 December 1944, together with 1 officer and 49 enlisted men. At that time, his unit was crossing the Blies River at Frauenberg, France.

He died in a POW camp and was initially buried at the East Cemetery at Leipzig/Pegau. He was disinterred by an American Search and Recovery Team on 12 August 1947 and evacuated to Ardennes Cemetery.
