John C. Kempker attended St. Joseph High School where he graduated in 1940 and worked as a clerk. He joined the National Guard in Le Mars, Iowa on 10 February 1941.Cpl John C. Kempker first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Avellino, Italy. and is now buried next to his brother 2nd Lt Edward J. Kempker.
Both brothers are also remembered at the Mount Olivet Cemetery in Carroll, Iowa.
Another brother, 1st Lt Robert Michael Kempker served with the 534th Bomber Squadron, 381st Bomber Group, Heavy and survived the war.
