More information

James Pearce attended high school for two years and worked in the production of dairy products.

He volunteered for the Air Corps of the Army of the United States at Camp Croft, South Carolina.

The aircraft went down with the right wing on fire as a result of anti-aircraft fire. Ten parachutes were seen coming out of the aircraft. Five crew members were killed, five survived and were taken prisoner.

S/Sgt Pearce bailed out and was last seen in his parachute about three miles over the English Channel just off Boulogne, France according to the radio operator. He may have landed in the Channel and either drowned or been hit by flak.
