Sgt Edward W. Aho joined his unit from the 48th Replacement Battalion on 19 August 1944 as a private. He was promoted to sergeant on 30 September 1944.

Edward W. Aho was taken Prisoner in France in October 1944. He sent one Red Cross card home in January 1945 from Stalag III-C, Alt Drewitz, Germany (Today's Drzewice Kostrzyn, Poland). Was never heard from him again.
Information reveals that the German guards forced the American and Russian Prisoners of War to leave Stalag III-C near the village of Drzewica, Poland on 31 January 1945. They had marched only a short distance when they were caught between Russian and German cross fire and were killed by gunfire from Russian tanks.

He was officially declared dead one day and one year after the assumed date of his death.
