1st Lt Thomas C. Gaines Jr. enlisted in Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana on 17 March 1942.Graduate of Louisville Male High School and the University of Kentucky, he formerly was employed with the Kentucky Lithographing Company of which his father was the president. Lt Gaines had been in the service three years and overseas since January. He was commissioned in antiaircraft at Camp Davis, N.C.
He is memorialized at Cave Hill Cemetery in Louisville, Kentucky.
