Pvt Maynard F. Flanigan graduated from East High School despite being in the Army when graduation ceremonies took place. Shortly after his mother died, he lived with his foster parents - his aunt and uncle - in Allouez, Wisconsin.
He died of grievous shell wounds to the head at the 51st Evacuation Hospital in St. Die.
