S/Sgt Louis Kaplan attended college and was a retail manager before he enlisted in New York City, New York on 2 September 1943.

For his actions on 22 September 1944 in Faucogney, France, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross.

In October 1944 he was wounded by small arms fire at the side of his body.

He was killed by artillery shell fragments.
