1st Lt Robert J. Kaufman attended college for two years and was a mechanic and repairman before he enlisted in Cleveland, Ohio on 12 May 1941.While rescuing members of his tank crew, Lt Kaufman was wounded in action. He was taken prisoner and died as a result of these wounds in a German hospital in the town of Barr, France.
