Pfc Fred W. Whitehead attended high school for four years and worked on the family farm.He enlisted in Shreveport, Louisiana on 22 March 1944 and was sent overseas on 12 October.
For his actions on 26 November 1944, in France, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal.
He was wounded in action in January 1945 by artillery shell fragments in the abdomen. The exact location where he died is not known.
