More information

Sgt Eugene H. Greene joined the National Guard in Nashville, Tennessee on 16 September 1940.

S/Sgt Bernard J. Charney:
"Our ship which was flying Number 6 in B flight we just left the target and all ships in the formation were in evasive action. I noticed ship 221 going out to our right at about three o’clock and it side slighted to the left and collided with another ship. It split in half right at the bomb bay at the trailing edge of the wing. The four engines were still running, the front part of the ship went into a nose dive and the tail just floated down. Two chutes were seen to fall out but from which ship I could not tell."

2nd Lt William F. Pfeiffer:
"He was injured and unable to get out of the nose turret."
