2nd Lt William T. Urban graduated from Northeast Catholic High School in 1939 and was employed as an electrician at All State Electric Company.

He joined the Air Corps of the U.S. Army Reserve in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on 6 July 1942.

S/Sgt Bernard J. Charney:
"Our ship which was flying Number 6 in B flight we just left the target and all ships in the formation were in evasive action. I noticed ship 221 going out to our right at about three o'clock and it slide slighted to the left and collided with another ship. It split in half right at the bomb bay at the trailing edge of the wing. The four engines were still running, the front part of the ship went into a nose dive and the tail just floated down. Two chutes were seen to fall out but from which ship I could not tell."
