More information
1st Lt Harold B. Levine enlisted in New York City, New York on 15 October 1942.Per Don Hutton: "We were flying at 23000 ft. Lt Abbott called and said he was having trouble with the #2 supercharger. I noticed what appears to be flame suppressors burning on #2 engine. Flames were coming out around the #2 supercharger. I called Lt Abbott but there was no response. The flames were shooting clear back to the rudder. No bombs were salvoed and no engine feathered. Eleven chutes were seen to open. The plane lost altitude, started coming under my ship and the went into the clouds. Gunners saw a flash and plane apparently exploded."
Per Charles McCoy: "German SS troops informed me that Lt Levine was shot because of his religion - Hebrew. His helmet, oxygen mask and 'Mae West' , also his parachute, were shown to me. I didn't see the body."
Per Lt Faulk: "At least 6 Czech civilians said that he was wounded by shots in his descent from Hungarian soldiers of German Army and was shot to death the next day and his body was in Kováčová, Slovakia."
