Pfc John J. Schmidt attended high school for two years and worked on his own farm before he enlisted at Camp Josepth T. Robinson, Arkansas on 21 June 1944.He was killed by artillery shell fragments to his face.
He is also remembered at the Cedar Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery in Floral, Independence County, Arkansas.
