Pvt Francis X. Zweir graduated from De LaSalle High School and attended Rhode Island State College.He enlisted in Providence, Rhode Island on 28 December 1942.
Pvt Zweir was killed by enemy rifle bullet during this crossing of the Wiltz river..
In 1946, the Arnold-Zweir Post 22 of the American Legion, Jamestown, Rhode Island was named in his honor.
