T/4 Thomas P. Finnerty graduated from La Salle High School and was a clerk.

He enlisted in New York City, New York on 3 April 1943.

He took part in the African and Italian campaigns, before his unit was transferred to France. On 23 January 1944, he was wounded in action in his leg by artillery shell fragments at Anzio and hospitalized until March 1944.

On 26 March 1945, while crossing the River Rhine in the vicinity of Worms Germany, the boat with Capt – Chaplain Loren L. Stanton and several medics on board capsized.
