S/Sgt Charles E. McClellan was a driver before he enlisted in Akron, Ohio on 1 April 1943.Capt George F. Coleman Jr.:
"I believe the airplane was hit by fragmentation bombs released from a higher element in the same bombing formation."
2nd Lt Thaddeus H. Walker:
"S/Sgt McClellan was either unable to reach his chute because of the gyrations of the falling ship, or he was unconscious as a result of the explosion. It is believed that he was killed in the ensuing crash."
