More information

Sgt John F. Scarborough attended college and was a shipping and receiving clerk before he enlisted at Fort McPherson, Georgia on 6 February 1943.

Capt George F. Coleman Jr.:

"I believe the airplane was hit by fragmentation bombs released from a higher element in the same bombing formation."

2nd Lt Thaddeus H. Walker:

"Sgt Scarborough was at his battle station in the ball turret when the ship exploded. The explosion tore the ship in two at the waist windows, and ball turret. He was not able to extricate himself from his turret, it is believed, and was probably killed in the ensuing crash."
