S/Sgt George B. La Chance attended high school for four years and was a bus driver, employed by the Lake Linden Hubbell High School, before he enlisted in Escanaba, Michigan on 14 February 1941.

From November 1943 until February 1944, in Italy, he was hospitalized for cold injuries at his foot.

S/Sgt La Chance was awarded a Silver Star Medal posthumously for his actions on 8 November 1944.

He was killed by small arms fire in the face.
